Homelessness assignment

Homelessness, Why? (this is a made up story for a short story assingment on homelessness)
As I was at home, in my comfortable surroundings, the news came on. Channel 10 was doing a special on homelessness. I wondered why because most people that are homeless won't be able to watch it anyways. So why have this special? I was uncomfortable watching this, I wanted to turn the channel but I couldnt. I guess seeing homeless people is like an accident. You know you shouldnt stare but the curiosity always gets the best of us , so, I left it on.
WOW, some of these people were just like me!!! They just showed a man who worked on Wall Street in 1992, boy did he have a nice home. OMG....I know that woman, I use to work with her at the Cable Company, she was a boss, hmmm wonder what happened. It dawned on me......homeless people arn't all drug addicts and lazy people. I wonder if someday that could be me in the layers of clothes pushing a shopping cart of aluminum cans?
I then started getting angry instead of curious. Why is there someone with 6 homes and 4 cars while someone else is on the street? Why do alot of us assume that the person pushing a cart is a whacko or loser? Why can't things in life be equal? If we split up all the money in the US and shared our income, I bet we would all be comfortable. People don't want comfort, they want IT ALL. Isnt it funny that this now homeless man who use to work on wallstreet was one the people who thought that the man pushing a cart was a loser? Isn't it ironic how my ex-coworker use to pass a homeless person on the street and turn to me and say "why doesnt he get off his lazy ass and get a job" is now one herself? Who knows, maybe if we respected these people and treated them like humans, they wouldnt be homeless right now. Im glad I watch the news tonight.
