I a bid to get fit & lose some weight I bought an electric powered Roger Black Treadmill & installed it in my attic.
The idea was I could walk while browsing the web = much better than sitting on my ass!

But every time I start the treadmill it completely kills my internet connection.
At first I thought it was interfering with the wireless signal, so I hard-wired the router to the PC with a LAN cable - same result.
So it's obviously killing the router itself somehow.
Today I moved the router as far away from the treadmill as possible (2 floors down - about 8 metres away) but it still dies when the treadmill is running!

Anybody got ANY idea why this is happening, and if possible, a solution?

Cheers!
KK

Cause:

The RFI interference from the treadmill was being transmitted up the power wires around the house and passing the interference in to the telephone lines.

Resolution:

I resolved the problem by plugging the treadmill in to a "Belkin PureAV" surge protector. Apparently, its "Power Filter Technology (PFT) isolates contamination to prevent AC and EMI/RFI power distortions". Whatever, it resolved the problem perfectly. Obviously, you would need the correct (voltage) version of this product for your country.

Thanks VERY much for that! :notworthy
Being a bit technical, I kinda guessed that might be the problem, but I had no idea how to cure it!

That's not my wording check the link I provided below..

He would need this to protect it..

I also suggest to anyone that has a computer to use a surge protector. I use them for my computer and my HD television and many of my other electronics. Keeps them grounded and protected against sudden surges of electricity.

How Surge protectors work.

Excellent advice VG. I have always had a surge protector on my computer, but wasn't nearly as smart when it came to my tv's (mine and my daughter's). We had a storm one day just over a year ago, and I lost not one, but both of them. They've both since been replaced with new ones....and both have surge bars on them. No way am I going through that again. I had to go without any tv for almost a week, and I nearly died.

Well, at least it only killed your internet. Poor Mike Tyson and his family.

Terrible thing to lose a child. Might want to make sure you loop and fasten any loose cords.

KK and CM...perhaps a thread title in some respect?

I agree, it's sad....

But not intentional on KK's part. This was posted before that tragedy...

I realize that, perhaps I'm just a little sensitive in such matters. I by no means think that KK would ever be so distasteful, but given recent events, maybe Treadmill interfers with internet or such?
You know I'm not like that.
I don't really see any connection between my minor problem & Mike Tyson's tragedy, but if I could change the thread title I would.
Since CM hasn't made me a mod yet :)rolleyes:) I can't do anything about it.

OMG! I spewed my coffee all over my monitor!

I also use surge protectors on everything, didn't help when my C-band dish got struck by lightening though. Blew up everything... tv, vcr, stereo, computer. The only thing that was turned on was my comp, weird. Insurance adjuster stated he'd never seen anything like it, my surge protectors were blacken from burning out.
