Re. Hungarian booze:
It's really better in what used to be the old Jugoslavia, but you should be able to get some nice Slivovitz in Hungary... the best Hungarian brand is Zwack Slivovitz from Budapest to my knowledge.
It's a clear liquor made of plums, very potent and is drunk like brandy - as an after dinner drink. It really packs a punch though, and is not as mellow as Brandy.
Personally, it's one of my favorites.
