I once got into second place on a big tourney at Royal Vegas on a free entry - of course I was greedy
so I bought in (continue) once to get into first place and then once more to stay there.
Last week I was in first in a tourney at River Belle, but didn't buy in and got knocked down to third before it was done - which still gave me $10, normally if I'm in first and don't buy in I get bumped completely out.
