Sometimes I use google's 'free' tools, but you have to remember that EVERYONE in our sector tries to play google one way or another.

Google works hard to make sure that the free stuff they offer can not be exploited to increase a sites ranking. They don't always secede in this, but regardless they are always trying. So any 'boost' your sites rankings 'may' receive from google groups is only going to be temporary. Once Matt Cutts and his team of spam fighting search engineers get on to it any boost in ranking goes away real fast.

I personally think your better off 'ranking wise' to just offer RSS feeds of good well written articles and then make sure all the 'right' places have your feed.
